The paper by Tera Reid-Olds, titled, “Mobility and Memory for the Storyteller-in-Exile” focuses on novels by the Haitian-Canadian author, Marie-Célie Agnant and Ethiopian-Italian author, Gabrielle Ghermandi.
Both authors write, not in their native language, but in the language of their oppressor — French, in the case of Agnantl Italian in the case of Ghermandi — and both use narrative as the preserver of memory; they are both “the voice of our history that doesn’t want to be forgotten.”
