Since the 19th century, discourses of translation and gender have played out in the “radical[ly] heterogeneous” pages of periodicals (Liggins, 612). While Francesca Orsini and others have begun to address the relationship between periodicals and translation, and scholars such as Margaret Beetham have explored the relationship between women and periodicals, there is much to be learned by placing these three analytical categories–periodicals, translation, gender–into direct and intentional conversation with one another.

This panel welcomes papers/submissions that look at periodicals through the lens of translation and gender, especially welcoming participation from scholars working on periodicals produced in “peripheral” or “marginalized” languages or regions.
